Dylan aims to inspire kids from Prep to Year 12 to value their identity and express it in ways that suits their own talents.  Dylan wants to empower teachers with the ability to share, care, and respect the traditional indigenous culture, both in and out of the classroom

Sarra Inc.’s approach is producing strong vibrant and seasonal colour schemes over the traditional indigenous art forms.  Dylan tells stories that are important to him and interprets other’s stories in the same way.

Sisters

So this is a recent commissioned painting I was asked to do for an old school friend. The brief was simple… “Hey I was wondering if you could paint me a picture – aboriginal/modern that shows sisterhood, environment, love and sharing. It’s for a dear friend and would love to give her something special.” The […]

Naidoc 2016

This event was a high point of my year. The unexpected huge return we got on a small budget was crazy. We have at our school a small number of parents that are committed to better outcomes for our indigenous children. It was an event that we wanted to showcase the indigenous culture and represent […]

Youth Detention Centre

Another exciting project? Check. Another, I didn’t know what to expect? Check. Changing your delivery to suit a young and hurting audience? Reality check. Welcome to the world of youth detention. A detention that outwardly shows our indigenous youth in crisis. After my first day, I questioned myself,  how I was in a place with […]

  • First painting finished for 2020. And it’s a big one!
This is an abstract piece that represents the corrugated sand under the sea. I remember as a kid just floating in the water with my goggles just being fascinated with watching the sand go on like this in to the horizon. Every time the swell would wash over, it would expose something new like tiny shells or a food source for small fish. Its memories like these that some of my more traditional style of art comes from. Paintings like this are like a form of meditation that allow me to just sit and think.
I noticed that the @pantone colour of the year is classic blue. How timely! Can’t wait to see this hung up at its new home in Sydney.

  • Progress shot of a commission piece I’m currently working on. Biggest canvas I’ve painted in this style. The longer you stare at it the dots start to move, which is great when the painting is about the ocean. .

  • A follow up from my last post...
With the tree completed, We took the kids charcoal animal drawings completed during classroom workshops and @Rebecca_mcduff turned them into animations. This was the result of having their drawings projected onto the wall. Was such a great experience to work with everyone involved and get great feedback about the whole project.
