Dylan aims to inspire kids from Prep to Year 12 to value their identity and express it in ways that suits their own talents.  Dylan wants to empower teachers with the ability to share, care, and respect the traditional indigenous culture, both in and out of the classroom

Sarra Inc.’s approach is producing strong vibrant and seasonal colour schemes over the traditional indigenous art forms.  Dylan tells stories that are important to him and interprets other’s stories in the same way.

Sisters

So this is a recent commissioned painting I was asked to do for an old school friend. The brief was simple… “Hey I was wondering if you could paint me a picture – aboriginal/modern that shows sisterhood, environment, love and sharing. It’s for a dear friend and would love to give her something special.” The […]

Naidoc 2016

This event was a high point of my year. The unexpected huge return we got on a small budget was crazy. We have at our school a small number of parents that are committed to better outcomes for our indigenous children. It was an event that we wanted to showcase the indigenous culture and represent […]

Youth Detention Centre

Another exciting project? Check. Another, I didn’t know what to expect? Check. Changing your delivery to suit a young and hurting audience? Reality check. Welcome to the world of youth detention. A detention that outwardly shows our indigenous youth in crisis. After my first day, I questioned myself,  how I was in a place with […]

  • Boy and Owl.

Thought I’d try something a little different with this one. The owl is known for its sharp vision and keen observation. What can we learn from that? Like the owl we can possess insight and intuition when we pause and reflect on different situations that are having an impact us. .

  • Playing possum
Possums are very curious by nature. This illustration captures a sense of this with the playfulness of the child.

  • The Goanna

Inspired by a suggestion from a friend. I thought about how we see the move of the goanna in try celebrations in the #nrl and initiated by @greg_inglis1
These types of moves stem from the song and dance about our native Australian animals and the mimicking of their actions. When did this learning process start? As children. .

  • Dancing with the Brolga.

I remember my Grandmother being a fan of the ballet, but until recently I never really understood why. It wasn’t until I was told about how she loved Swan Lake and the connection to her childhood.
There was a lagoon not far from where she lived at Tantitha Station, north Bundaberg. This was a place they were told to go play if police were nearby, for fear of being stolen and sent to a mission. At this lagoon my grandma had fond memories of the beautiful trees, white sand and clean water with abundant wildlife. But there was one bird that captured her affection. The Brolga. She loved the way they would dance and sing.
Hence the reason she loved the ballet. This lagoon no longer exists as its buried under cane fields. The best i can do as an artist is to bring these memories back to life and share them, as they have to me. I been thinking about you a lot lately Grandma and all our old people we have lost with the stories they tell. This ones for you. ♥️ .

  • Boy and Dingo.
We hear a lot about the dingoes on Fraser and how human interaction is heavily discouraged and they are feared. Once upon a time though, they were part of #butchulla culture and had a close connection with the indigenous people of #kgari or otherwise known as Fraser Island.
